Accident investigators with the Mississippi Highway Patrol say they are in the process of investigating a terrible accident in Kosciusko, MS that happened earlier this week and left the drivers of two cars seriously injured.
Police say that they first received a call about the Attala County accident a little before 9 p.m. Monday night. Emergency responders were then dispatched to Highway 35 South where the wreck occurred. Once there, officials say they discovered a pickup truck lying on its side just off the roadway, while a passenger vehicle was seriously damaged on the shoulder of the road.
The passenger vehicle was driven by a 17-year-old male who police say was taken to Kosciusko by ambulance where he was later airlifted to Jackson for additional medical treatment. His injuries are said to be extensive.
The driver of the pickup truck appeared to have survived with only relatively minor injuries and officers say they were asking questions about what may have gone wrong to cause the serious crash. So far, the sheriff’s department says they have not determined a possible cause of the crash, but that they are working hard to figure out what may have gone wrong.

One is that they simply lack the experience and skill that older drivers have. The reality is that with driving, as with so much else, practice makes perfect. Since young drivers have only been behind the wheel for such short spans of time, many are not able to make the kind of quick decisions that older drivers are able to do instinctively, something that results in a large number of accidents each and every year.
Another factor that many believe accounts for the increased risk of harm suffered by young driers is that night driving is exceptionally dangerous for new drivers. Data shows that the per mile crash rate for teenaged drivers is 3 times higher after 9:00 pm during the day. This is because the task of driving at night is more difficult for everyone and young drivers have less experience driving at night than during the day; they are more sleep deprived, and because teenage recreational driving is more likely to occur at night.
