Two drivers in northern Mississippi were injured in an afternoon accident on Highway 9 in Pontotoc. The crash occurred a little before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 9 and South Pontotoc Road.
Mississippi Highway Patrol says that a car driven by Sherri Koerber was heading south on Highway 9 when a vehicle driven by Timothy Moore turned onto the highway. Moore’s vehicle was hit on the driver’s side and ended up overturning. The accident caused both drivers to be taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc for treatment. Thankfully, authorities say both people were wearing their seatbelts which minimized the severity of the injuries.
Police say that so far no one has been charged in the accident but that the collision remains under investigation.
More than 10,000 people across the country are killed each year in rollover accidents, according to the National Safety Council. Rollover crashes represent 3 percent of all collisions and yet account for 31 percent of occupant fatalities. Rollovers are among the most dangerous types of vehicle crashes because of the high incidence of occupant ejection and head injuries.
Of all the car accidents that are possible, rollover accidents are among the most dangerous. In such an accident, a driver loses complete control over their vehicle, often causing the accident to be even more severe. Additionally, the injuries that people suffer in rollover accidents are usually very serious due to the force exerted on a car and the damage it sustains.
Rollover accidents are, unfortunately, quite dangerous and can result in many different injuries. Depending on the severity of a person’s injury, he or she could be facing significant costs, years of medical treatment, and therapy, both physical and emotional. Some common dangers associated with rollover crashes include: cuts from broken glass, airbag injuries, broken bones, fractures, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
